What is TOPCon technology?
TOPCon is an advanced solar cell architecture based on passivated contactors with an ultra-thin tunnel oxide layer. This technology is an improvement over PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) monocrystalline silicon solar cells.
It is distinguished by the addition of a thin layer of silicon oxide (SiO₂), coupled with a doped layer of polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si), placed between the solar cell and the metal contacts.
Advantages of technology
Increased efficiency
TOPCon cells achieve efficiencies above 24%, exceeding the performance of conventional PERC cells.
Reduction of recombination
The tunnel oxide layer acts as a barrier for charge carriers, decreasing losses due to recombination and maximizing electricity generation.
Best performance in real conditions
Improved thermal resistance: TOPCon cells maintain their performance at high temperatures. Reduced sensitivity to low light: They generate more energy in low sunlight.
Durability and stability
The advanced structure improves cell longevity, ensuring slower degradation over time.
In summary, TOPCon technology represents a significant step towards more efficient, more durable solar panels that are better suited to modern energy needs. It is an ideal choice for maximizing the return on investment in photovoltaic installations.
